This is an agave americana, commonly known as a century plant or century cactus. This one is probably 10 or 20 years old. That 20′ spike in the center has appeared only in the past few weeks. Soon the spike will flower and the plant will die.

Another century plant, this one about 12′ high. We’ll monitor them and post photos when they flower.
